First Symptoms Of Pregnancy – Tender Breast

Posted on: September 22, 2010

Tender or swollen breast may be the first indication of a pregnancy. Hormonal changes are occurring that may make your breast feel tingly, tender or sore. They may also feel heavier and fuller. All of these symptoms occur as early as two weeks after conception. Remember this is normal and should not be taken as a alarm as something being wrong. It should be taken as an alarm as it’s time to see an doctor for pregnancy test.

What kind of hormonal changes are occurring?

During this stage, hormonal changes increase the blood flow to your breast as well as changing the breast tissue, which accounts for breast feeling swollen, sore, tingly and unusually sensitive to touch. Like I stated before expect this to happen around 2 to 6 weeks after conception and it should last through the first trimester.

Yes, this could be a painful beginning of a wonderful pregnancy. The only advice I could give you to reduce the pain or at least keep it bearable is to find a supportive bra (A few of them). Good supportive bras push up your breast and relieve some of the internal pressure of having your breast free flow. When purchasing a bra take your time and have a very knowledgeable sales person fit you. The best place to obtain this type of service is to find a specialty shop that will walk you through all of your choices as one to one interaction.

During the day a maternity bra may be your answer. These bras provide extra support when you need it most. Don’t be ashamed to buy this bra early as if you are going to breast feed in your third trimester this investment will not go to waste. While you are sleeping you may want to consider a pregnancy sleep bra. These bra provide a soft cotton inner cup that is nonrestrictive to your breast. These can also be purchased at a specialty maternity store.

Exercising

Because your breasts are heavier at this time it is especially important to have an extra supportive bra during your exercise periods. If you chose not to wear an extra supportive bra, friction from the movement of your breast during exercise will make you even tenderer. Take a look at extra supportive bras that are designed for exercise.

What not to buy?

During this trimester you may find that under wires in bras are not a comfortable. Chafing is a big problem also at this time. To prevent it look for bras with soft material and no seams near the nipple. Also, look for cotton bras and stay away from the synthetic bras.

Last, you are only in the first trimester so expect that your breast will become larger as you get further into your pregnancy. So, purchase bras that allow for growth both in cup size and chest circumference.

As a last note, always consult your doctor first before purchasing any bras.
